Iden suffered their first defeat of the East Sussex Cricket League season on Saturday.

Phil Shanks’ side went down by 109 runs away to Willingdon in Division One. Robin Mayes and Neil Pearce picked up three wickets each as Willingdon totalled 194-9 batting first.

But Shanks (24) and Paul Barnett (20 not out) were the only batsmen to reach double figures in reply with Iden collapsing to 85 all out.

Rye made it two wins out of two in Division Two with a four-wicket victory away to Hailsham. Sandun Dias and Martin Blincow bagged four wickets apiece to bowl Hailsham out for 120, and Dias blasted a quick-fire 38 not out to see Rye home in reply.

Battle won by nine wickets away to Fletching in the same division. Mike Gedye and Jo Carthew took three wickets each in Fletching’s total of 149 before former Hastings Priory star James Beeny (82) and Stuart Reed (52 not out) made short work of the run chase.

Also in Division Two, Robertsbridge beat Pevensey by 91 runs. Ben Collins made 106 and Dave Collins 82 in Robertsbridge’s 260-9 batting first, and Nick Whiteman claimed four wickets to bowl Fletching out for 169 in reply.

Full reports on each of these matches will appear in Friday’s Rye and Battle Observers.
