It was a bad weekend for the area’s leading East Sussex Cricket League teams.

Iden lost more ground in the Division One title race on the back of a 24-run defeat at home to eight-placed Plumpton & East Chiltington.

Mark Kitching took 3-38 as Plumpton made 197-9 batting first. Chris Curd hit 86, but Paul Barnett (37) was the only other batsman to score more than 10 as Iden were all out for 173 in reply.

Battle lost by eight wickets away to Division Two leaders St Peters. Mike Gedye (41) and Ben Ridgway (39) led the way in a Battle total of 152, but Joe Wood and Henry Francis were the only successful bowlers in reply.

Rye went down by 38 runs at Crowborough, who made 175-8 batting first despite three wickets for Craig Pierce. Jake Bryant (40) and Sandun Dias (36) were the only batsmen to reach 20 as Rye were all out for 137.

Robertsbridge provided some cheer, though, via a 110-run success at home to Fletching. Ben Collins scored 66 and Olly Smith 55 as Bridge reached 221 batting first. Guy Ballard took 5-37 to bowl Fletching out for 111.

Pett boosted their survival prospects in Division Four by winning away to Newick seconds, while Little Common Ramblers drew at Rotherfield. Full reports on each of these matches will appear in Friday’s Observers.
