Let there be Light

BEXHILL Town have appointed former Hailsham Town coach Gary Light as their new manager.

Light took the training session at The Polegrove in mid-week and takes charge of his first game on November 10 against Crawley side Edwards Sports in the second round of the Sussex Intermediate Cup.

Town had a terrible start to the season and were firmly at the bottom of the table after picking up just one point in eight games.

Mark Simpson took over as caretaker manager when Jeff Dyson left the club and managed to lift Bexhill out of the relegation zone.

But after two defeats Town have slipped back into trouble.

Light said the consistency of having a permanent manager will help the club, and added: "I watched them play on Saturday (against Crowborough Athletic) and they did quite well but were a bit unlucky. They had a lot of possession in the first half, hit the bar a couple of times and one of the goals they conceded was a mistake so I think there is definite potential."

The 50-year-old FA qualified coach has also had managed Eastbourne United s reserve team and coaches at Brighton & Hove Albion s school of excellence.

He has also signed his first new player, goalkeeper Dave Brown from Eastbourne Town, but will give the team a chance to prove themselves before he signs any more players.
