LIONS GET LIFT OFF

HELLINGLY Lions cycle speedway team continued their good form with a narrow 93-85 victory over Southampton Saints.

Hellingly went into the lead in heat one with a tapes to flag win for Neil Hollebon and with Joe Plumstead in third place the Lions were off to an encouraging start.

Skipper Eddie Ridley and Andrew Long filled the minor placings for a shared 5-5 in heat 2.

Martyn Hollebon and David Boniface further increased the Lions' lead with another 6-4 from a very hard fought heat three.

With heavy rain falling the Hellingly track became very greasy but the Lions held their nerve to lead 53 - 46 going into the interval.

More wins followed from the Hollebon brothers who received good support.

Two match-winning 7-3 wins in heats 16 and 17 sewed up this South West League fixture to give Hellingly two much-needed points to get off the bottom of the league.
