Memories of Cheltenham Festival linger for Fontwell punters

FONTWELL PARK stages a seven-race card this afternoon (Thurs) featuring many of the jockeys and trainers who helped make the Cheltenham Festival another one to remember last week.

A seven-race card gets under way at 2.20pm with the Rossetts Mercedes-Benz Commercials Novices’ Hurdle.

The field for the Platinum And Lace Gentlemen’s Club Brighton Handicap Chase includes Cypress Grove, who Dave Crosse rode to victory at the track recently, while an entry of ten for the Weatherbys Bloodstock Insurance Handicap Hurdle includes Marie Deja La, who was all set for a Fontwell victory a fortnight ago until unseating his rider at the last.

The Paul Nicholls-trained Current Event is set to go off as market leader in the Weatherbys Bank Novices’ Chase, while the Chris Gordon Racing Club 07975 668888 Handicap Hurdle could have well a Gordon runner as favourite – Bon Spiel, ridden by Tom Cannon.

The Richard Venn Bloodstock Handicap Chase could bring further success for Joe Tizzard, who rode Third Intention to victory in the National Spirit Hurdle last month. He rides Rateable Value, trained by dad Colin.

In the digibet.com Standard Open NH Flat Race, all eyes will be on Utopian, trained by Findon’s Nick Gifford. The horse sparked emotional scenes when he won at Fontwell last month on a day when the crowd paid tribute to the late great Josh Gifford, Nick’s father.

Entry is from £15 on the gate.

OUR FONTWELL TIPS:

2.20 Handsome Harry, 2.50 Cypress Grove, 3.20 Orvita, 3.55 Get It On, 4.30 Bon Spiel, 5.05 Amirico, 5.35 Utopian.

We’ll have a report on the meeting on this website this evening, and you can get updates during the afternoon by following @stevebone1 on Twitter.
