Mick Waghorn was received another prestigious award for his long-standing service to Bexhill Cricket Club.
Having scooped a NatWest CricketForce OSCA earlier in the autumn, Waghorn received the BBC Sussex Unsung Hero of the Year accolade at the Sussex Sports Awards last Friday.
Waghorn has done just about every job at the club including chairman, vice-chairman, bar manager, captain, secretary, groundsman, maintenance man and fundraiser.
His fundraising efforts have brought in rollers, mowers, practice nets, pavilion improvements and new squares to the club. The impact is Bexhill’s emergence as a community club of huge stature with more than 150 juniors and remarkably five adult league sides, with the first team in the Sussex Premier League, as well as boasting Clubmark and SCB Focus Club status.
Held at The Grand Hotel in Brighton, the Sussex Sports Awards welcomed regular host, BBC Sussex DJ Danny Pike, and this year Olympic badminton silver medallist, Gail Emms MBE provided guests with inspirational tales of her journey to sporting success. Entertainment was provided by Brighton-based Parkour group, The Urban Playground Team.
