South Saxons kept their outside title hopes alive with a 4-1 win away to Crowborough on Saturday.

The result means Saxons remain four points behind South Hockey League Sussex Area - Division One leaders Horsham II with five matches to go.

Saxons captain Paddy Cornish said: “It was fairly comfortable. We never really looked like losing it once we got ahead. Second half we let ourselves go a little bit, but overall it was pretty good.”

Toby Reed opened the scoring and a Dan Burnett double put Saxons three-up at half time. Although Crowborough pulled one back, Jamie Busbridge restored the Hastings club’s three-goal cushion almost instantly.

Man of the match was Pete Watters, pictured. A full report will appear in Friday’s Hastings Observer.

Saxons: Deaves; Reed, Watters, Bunday; Cload, Burnett, Eldridge, Coombs; Towers, Busbridge, Orr. Subs: Cornish, Ford.
