Hastings Athletic Club is set to host the Sussex Cross-Country Championships this coming Saturday.
The county’s finest runners will descend on what’s sure to be a wet and muddy Bexhill Down for the prestigious annual event.
Pett-based talent Grace Baker, who last month won a team silver medal for Great Britain’s junior women at the Spar European Cross-Country Championships, is expected to challenge for the senior women’s title.
Last year Hastings AC achieved its best ever results in the championships and the club looks well capable of further success this time around.
Isaac Elam and the bang in-form Ellen Crombie will be going for gold in the under-13 boys’ and under-15 girls’ races respectively. Crombie’s brother James should make the top five in the under-13 boys’ event, while George Pool is a leading contender in the under-15 boys’ race.
As an added incentive, the first five finishers in each event will qualify automatically for the National Inter-Counties Championships in Birmingham.
Proceedings will get under way with the under-11s at 11am and races will follow every half-an-hour until concluding with the senior women at 2.30pm.
