South Saxons Hockey Club’s men’s first team will seek to begin 2016 by reaching the final of a county competition.
Saxons will return to action after the festive break tomorrow (Saturday) with a Sussex Plate semi-final at home to Penguin.
The Horntye Park-based club is six points clear at the top of Sussex Open Hockey League Division One having won 10 and drawn one of its first 11 games.
The one draw came away to second-placed Penguin in October so Saxons will be keen to put one over their title rivals this time. Push-back is 12noon.
The winners will take on whoever comes through the other last four tie between Middleton and Hailsham in the final, which is scheduled for April 24.
Gavin Cload will take over the captaincy for Saxons with Jamie Busbridge on holiday.
Also tomorrow, Saxons’ men’s fourth team will resume its Sussex Open Hockey League Division Four campaign with a trip to Crawley fourths. Saxons are currently in second place with eight wins out of 10.
