Snooker star Mark Davis lost 4-0 to an in-form Mark Allen in round one of the PTC Grand Final last night (Tuesday).
World number seven Allen, winner of the recent Haikou World Open, went 2-0 up in Galway with top breaks of 67 and 40. St Leonards-based Davis, ranked 17, should have won the third frame, but missed the penultimate red to a centre pocket at 57-16 and his opponent made an excellent 43 clearance.
Davis also had a clear chance in the fourth only to miss the last red on this occasion and again Allen stepped in to settle the tie. It’s the second time that Davis has been beaten by Northern Irish left-hander Allen since the turn of the year having also lost to him at The Masters.
After a superb seven months at the end of 2012, during which he reached three full ranking event semi-finals, Davis has now lost three successive matches in ranking events. He will begin his China Open campaign on Wednesday March 27.
