West Hill held their final show of the boxing season on Saturday and once more they put on a successful event.
The Hollington Community Centre venue was again close to capacity as supporters came in their droves and enjoyed seeing nine of the 12 West Hill boxers competing come out on top.
Ethan Salmon (32kg, 11yrs) totally overwhelmed Connor Woodward (Keddles Gym) and in round three of a skills bout.
In the first conventional bout, the excellent Elliott Hedger (37kg, 12yrs) won unanimously against Ben Sanders (Rye). George Filkins (43kg, 13yrs) was unlucky against a slick-moving Nathan Mizzen (Battlebridge ABC), while Toby Salmon (42kg, 12yrs) looked a class act in unanimously beating Luke Brooke (Rayleigh).
Tommy Lee (56kg, 14yrs) won a split decision against James Hawley after a hard-fought bout and William Badrock (42kg, 12yrs) beat Ben Brooke (Rayleigh) by a split decision after sending Brooke to the canvas in the second round.
Callum Wood (63kg, 16yrs) was retired by his corner with a shoulder injury, despite winning the first round. Dennis Buchanan (63kg) returned to the ring after a two-year absence and claimed a unanimous win against Luke Fairhead (Isle of Thanet).
West Hill debutant Nathan Stent (73kg) produced the only knockout of the evening against Lewis Butler (Hillcrest), while Shaun Attrell (68kg) won unanimously against Michael Chalkley (Rayleigh) and claimed the senior boxer of the evening award.
West Hill’s most experienced boxer, Ben White (65kg), had a unanimous points win over Sam Malone (Rayleigh), while Carmine Di Paolo was unlucky to lose on a split decision in the final bout against James Breshnan (Danson).
A club spokesman said: “We have had a tremendous season this year with the wins by far outweighing the losses and the show was a great way of capping it off.”
West Hill would like to thank everyone who helped make the show a success and their current sponsors, Horwood Drywall and Coleman Construction. The club also wished to acknowledge a £100 donation from SuperStitch 86.
