Steve Scott looked back with huge satisfaction on another successful year in the shooting world.
The Battle marksman was victorious at the ISSF World Cup Final and secured a place in Team GB for next summer’s Olympic Games.

He said: “I’m really, really chuffed. It’s been a long year and been a successful one so I can’t complain at all. I’ve been shooting really well and consistently, and I just hope I can carry on next year.
“To be honest I’m still in relaxed mode. Because the last year was so manic it’s wind-down mode now so I’ve just switched off and enjoyed some family time. I’ve only shot the odd day or two in the last couple of months and I’ll get back into it mid-January.”
Scott’s victory at the World Cup Final in Cyprus during October - when he beat Chinese marksman Qiang Pan in the men’s double trap gold medal match - was one of the highlights of his career to date.
That result moved him up to third in the world rankings and the following month he was among six shooting athletes officially selected to compete for Team GB at the 2016 Olympics in Rio.
Scott’s success in 2015 has really been a continuation of the form he showed last year when he won gold at the European Championships and Commonwealth Games.
“Just to stay bouncing around the top five in the world is great to know I’m up there,” continued Scott, who also came fourth in the ISSF World Cup event in Larnaca and second in Gabala. “And that includes missing out on the World Championships so I missed out on loads of (ranking) points there.”
The 30-year-old has attended two meetings in London over the past month to discuss the plan of attack for Rio, as well as next year’s World Cup events. He will also get a taste of the Olympic venue prior to the Games as a World Cup event is being held in Rio during April.
Before then, Scott plans to spend two or three weeks working with his coach Sheikh Al Maktoum in Dubai during the second half of January before heading to Qatar for a warm-up competition.
Scott wished to thank his coach, sponsors Perazzi and Carmyke Leasing (Herstmonceux), UK Sport, the National Lottery and British Shooting, plus his friends, family and girlfriend.
