Hardy Bexhill sailors won't be put off by fearsome forecasts

Race one was abandoned, and race two only had six boats on the water including Flo’ Wright’s Dart 16A Cat.

Three did not finish,hardly surprising. The forecast was pretty accurate so Ross Allen in his first season in his Laser Radial came in before the finish having had a swim or two.

Dan Harwood took fast fleet honours.

Richard Eagleton was chased by Lee Roberts until Lee had a rigging problem and joined Bob Palmer, unusually in a Topper, on the beach.

The sea caught out Richard as he came in winning the slow fleet, knocking him off the boat which crashed into the breakwater with damage.

His weekend’s sailing stopped there, but not his interest as he took over race officer duties.

Again the forecast led to just six boats entering the water: three Lasers, a lone Europe [Lee Roberts], Logan Adams in a Topper, with brother Aaron sailing with grandad Mike in an RS200.

The Dan Harwood full rig Laser led the trio,but the effect of using Radial sails may affect that result.The final race was run with the same six having a similar outcome.

The forecast was not as concerning, with a flat sea and steadier wind.

With autumn arriving sailors will be changing to full wetsuits but hoping for steady breezes to see out the season in a sport that has government approval to continue.

More racing is planned starting with a Early Worm on Sunday (7.30am) followed by the Club Cup at 10am.
