Carl Adams and David Brogan took on the legendary Hurtwood Ultra Trail 50km race. The event is a demanding, undulating course, with a mixture of woodland and road terrain. The event was contested by nearly 300 of the countries top ultra distance runners.

Adams finished in 04:59:48, achieving 27th overall and 13th in the age category of Male vet 40 plus. His good friend, club mate and fellow ultra distance runner Brogan also romped home in 05:42:03, taking eighth in the category of Male vet 50 plus.

On the same day two of HY’s OCR team were taking part in the Pippinford Park Brutal 10km.

Brutal by name and by nature, athletes have to endure a mixture of multi-terrain and extreme elevation and spend several sections of the course wading through murky waters and climbing near vertical slopes.

Chris Shipley ran 01:03:38 to finish seventh while Sophie McGoldrick ran in 01:16:13 to become the fourth lady finisher.

It was another successful weekend for HY who look forward to cheering on the team at the Staplehurst Village 10 mile run, while one of the clubs elite athletes Stacey Clusker looks forward to the elite only Wrexham Marathon.

Head coach Terry Skelton said: “Well done to everyone who took part on Saturday. Also good luck to our runners in their events this coming weekend!”
