Return to sport is plain sailing at Hastings

Three sailors form the Hastings & St Leonards Sailing Club wasted no time getting back on the water when lockdown restrictions eased on Monday.

With the sun shining and in a good breeze, Vice Commodore, Melanie Clark, led club members Eric Petersen and Mat Windley on to the water to mark the resumption of sailing.

Commodore Philip Blurton said: “Our clubhouse and changing rooms remain closed for the time being but at least we can get back on the water again. It was fantastic to see boats out on the water on the first day that this was possible and I am sure the numbers will grow over the coming weeks.

"We are holding our first racing on Easter Sunday and will continue with informal sailing activities until the resumption of our programmed events from the May 9.

"We also have a full cohort of beginners sail training starting in April and programmed youth sailing from May. We are ready to go and just hope the roadmap out of lockdown stays on course to make it all possible.”
