The Marlene Briance Salver was organised by the veterans’ captain Richard Jarvis and the lady captain Alison Weller. Marlene, a past member of the club, sent her best wishes to all who played.

The winners were the captains, and it was well deserved – they had worked hard to organise the competition that included a tea after the match. Carol Wheeler and Ray Croxford came second.

The ladies had a few competitions. For the first Christmas competition, the weather was kind and almost all the ladies finished their round before the rain started.

The result was a win for Gilly Chapman, scoring 34 points. She joined the ladies’ section in 2019 and is enjoying the course and the friendly atmosphere of the section. Carol Wheeler, who also scored 34 points, came second on countback.

The second Christmas competition was won by Alison Weller with a staggering 41 points, very much helped by the amazing achievement of getting a hole in one on the third hole. A player rarely gets a hole in one and before Alison’s, only five Selsey clubladies had achieved this since the records began in 1927.

The Christmas Scramble was a fun day and those who usually play the nine-hole competitions joined in with the 18-hole ladies and played as a foursome.

The winner’s were Coryn White, Gilly Chapman, Mary Carpenter and Sue Bywater and the runners-up were Caroline Simpson, Cathy Croxford, Jaqui Towns and Shirley Brown

A third Christmas competition was cancelled because of bad weather but a few ladies played just nine holes before the heavy rain came in – very disappointing as this was to be the last competition before lockdown.

The ladies have been thrilled to welcome ten new members to the section during 2020 – really great news for the section, and all have expressed how much they are enjoying their golf and being part of the club.

This year’s Selsey captains for the ladies and main club will remain as last year – Alison Weller and Matt Hurst. The veterans’ captain will be Kevin Fielder.
