Saxons back to winning ways

South Saxons continued their bid for a runners-up finish with a 5-1 win away to Worthing III on Saturday.

The result kept Saxons fourth in South Hockey League Sussex Area - Division One because runaway leaders Lewes II suffered their first defeat of the season against second-placed Lewes III.

As has been the case in many of Saxons’ recent games, the opposition put a lot of men behind the ball and looked to break quickly. Initially it worked pretty well as Saxons only led 1-0 at half time.

Worthing equalised three minutes into the second half, but that seemed to spur Saxons into action and they dominated the rest of the game. The goals came from Toby Reed (2), Paddy Cornish, Dan Burnett and Rob Whitehouse.

A full report and reaction will appear in Friday’s Hastings Observer.
