STEYNING OUT OF CUP

STEYNING slipped out of the Cup on Saturday when high-riding Division One outfit Pagham matched every ounce of the home side's stubborn resistance.

Town were left kicking themselves for not taking any of the three gilt-edged chances they created during a purple patch of seven minutes midway through the first half, and that failure allowed the Lions to go on and dominate the rest of the match.

Steyning were keen to unsettle the visitors from the start and were also happy to settle a few old scores left over from the Senior Cup tie in November.

Having seen off the early threat, Pagham went in front in the 10th minute when a testing diagonal ball from Brett Forden found James Mandry who side-footed past Andy Ewen from six yards.
