SIDLEY boosted their hopes of escaping the drop by notching a second successive win in Division Two of the Sussex Cricket League.
A couple of weeks ago Sidley had looked doomed but after finally claiming their first victory of the campaign against Glynde & Beddingham, they followed it up by seeing off Goring in what was something of a grudge match.
Although they still prop up the table, Sidley are now only 19 points adrift of Pulborough in the final position of safety.
Put into bat at Gullivers, Goring were shot out for 98 off 38.2 overs with the wickets being shared between Paul Swannell (5-42 off 19.2 overs) and Chris Deeprose (5-18 off 14 overs). Danny Pittham (43) top-scored for the visitors.
In reply, Sidley reached their target for the loss of three wickets with the bulk of the runs being scored by Paul Thompson (35) and John Haffenden (27 not out).
Sussex Division Two standings (all played 14): Three Bridges 310pts, Cuckfield 239, St James’s Montefiore 236, Glynde & Beddingham 220, Findon 215, Goring-by-Sea 188, Ifield 184, Pulborough 175, Haywards Heath 165, Sidley 156.
