United tackle perfect Police

HASTINGS United entertain one of only two teams still to boast a perfect record in Ryman Division One when Metropolitan Police arrive at the Pilot Field.

The Blues have won all of their opening four fixtures to join AFC Wimbledon at the top of the table - five points clear of Hastings who lie in seventh position.

Hastings manager Steve Lovell is expecting a tough game on Saturday August 28. "They will be a strong side, an organised side and another test for us," he said.

Gillingham youngster Jon Wallis could be back after missing the midweek draw with Croydon Athletic through injury, but fellow midfielder Steve Ringwood is almost certainly out if the sight of Hastings' opening day hat-trick hero hobbling around the ground on Tuesday night was anything to go by. Ringwood suffered a knock to his leg at Banstead Athletic 10 days' ago.

Hastings, who visit Dorking on Monday, have added to their squad with the signing of defender-cum-striker Sean Ray who has already put pen to paper with Sussex League Rye & Iden United.

The first couple of weeks of the season have done nothing to alter Lovell's opinion on the new league. "It will be open and it will basically be whoever plays well on the night will win. All the teams we've played so far have roughly been the same," he said. "I've seen nothing that's going to worry us but it is down to us, and if we can eliminate these mistakes that we give teams the more of a chance we will have."
