UNITED TOPPLE CHAMPIONS CHICHESTER

WORTHING United joined Littlehampton as the second side '” both of them promoted ones '” to upend defending champions Chichester on their own Church Road ground.

Disciplined United won 2-1 on Tuesday with a game plan designed to nip their opponents in their build-up.

Paul Brown completed a calculated move (24min), Scott Tipper equalised (29) but Neil Shelley took the winner well after the involvement of Peter Montgomery and Brown in the 71st minute.

United had taken their first victory of the season, 3-1 at home to Sidlesham last Wednesday in a powerful performance in which they stayed compact, wore down their opponents, played good football and could have won by more.

A goal down after 10 minutes, they came through with two goals from Paul Brown and one from Sonny Banks.

United lost 1-0 only to an 85th-minute Glenn Davies penalty at star-studded Ring-mer on Saturday. Montgomery and Stuart Sell combined to foul Dominic Shepherd needlessly.
