Watts about that! Emma wins share in our Channon colt

Emma Watts toasted her success in our Win A Share In A Racehorse competition and declared: This is for you, son.

The 28-year-old beat off more than 4,000 hopefuls to land the all-expenses paid prize put up by Heart of the South Racing.

She entered because son Charlie, seven, is a racing fanatic. Now Emma is preparing her whole family, including husband Matthew and daughter Shannon, for an exciting foray into the sport of kings. “Charlie mentioned the competition to me when he saw it,” said Emma (pictured left with the horse’s trainer Mick Channon).

“He was constantly reminding me, telling me not to forget.

“Charlie’s one of the main reasons we got into racing. He’s seven and absolutely obsessed. I wanted it for him but never imagined I’d win it.”

The six weekly winners, who included Jill Arnell of Chichester and Havant’s Doug Tibbets, were all invited to meet the colt at Mick Channon’s yard in West Ilsley last Saturday. They also won tickets to see racing at Fontwell Park.

They had a guided tour of the stables and watched the two-year-olds – including the prize colt – on the gallops.

Channon drew Emma’s name out of the hat and said of the colt: “He is a smashing individual, a lovely horse.”
