SOMPTING FESTIVAL: This year's line-up

A CHARITY bungee jump will be one of the attractions at this year's Sompting Festival, which runs from from Friday, May 30, to Sunday, June 1.

The third annual Sompting Festival has a new look this year. On Friday, May 30, it will open earlier than before, at 3pm, with a community caf in the main marquee.

Shayler's Funfair will be open and food will also be available.

The beer festival starts at 6pm, with karaoke in the bar and the charity bungee jump outside. Anyone who would like to take part should call John Beales, on 01903 520618.

The fun restarts at 10am on Saturday, May 31, with the funfair, beer festival and community stalls, as well as guided tours of St Mary's Church and the Somptin' Old exhibition at the community centre, in Loose Lane.

In addition, the air raid shelter, believed to be the sole remaining example of its type in the county, will be open.

Various bands and other entertainers will be performing throughout the day, and there will be miniature steam train rides, bouncy castles and bungee trampolines.

The Saturday night concert will start at 6pm, with the Southdown Ramblers back by popular demand, supported by local acts NEON, Coast, Amethyst and Final Destin-ation. There will also be a special appearance by musician Bowvayne, who grew up locally and will be promoting his new single and album.

On the Sunday, the day starts with the joint family service in the marquee at 10.30am. Everyone is welcome to attend.

From noon, the fairground will be open, along with the rest of the community fair and the beer festival.

Somptin' Old, the air raid shelter and the village hall will be open again, and there will be more guided tours of St Mary's Church.

There will be even more bands, musical groups and entertainers, along with the Sompting Mummers Play and JWF Wrestling display.

The free festival bus will be running throughout the weekend and a timetable, along with the latest festival news, can be found online at www.somptingfestival.org.uk
