Does he propose an EU army?

Further to Steve Spice's excellent letter (13/5/16), 56 per cent of Britain's exports already attract import tariffs (WTO average under four per cent) yet Remain insists Brexit will destroy our economy through £11bn '˜punitive' EU tariffs (8 per cent average) and a depressed Sterling which will, ironically, boost British exports!

Import tariffs are charged on ‘dock-side’ value, not the grossly inflated retail price: a £10 British widget attracts a ‘crippling’ €0.80 (eight per cent) EU tariff but that now €10.8 widget will still retail at a competitive (say) €40 Euro (not raised to €43) all plus 20 per cent VAT.

As a Customs Union (not a FTA) all tariffs go to the EU.

Keith Taylor MEP misunderstands the UN, NATO, Schuman’s Franco-Germanic ECSC, EEC and EU histories.

Nor, Mr Cameron, does Britain ‘turn its back on Europe’!

Britain honoured our defence treaties in two world wars and for 300 years our Royal Navy protected European merchantmen, securing global oceanic trade routes – both duties largely taken over by the 12 nation North Atlantic Treaty of 1949 (under the UN) ‘to restore the security of the North Atlantic Area’, extended to the mutual defence of continental Europe and, from 1955, the newly sovereign West Germany.

NATO (not the EEC/EU) was the UN/European self-defence force until the EU-shambles over Kosovo at which NATO also became the UN’s dutiful belligerent force.

Wars are caused by religious/tribal conflict, attempts to destroy another’s independence, or failing amicable divorce from a domineering, bullying partner.

Cowering Cameron now suggests the EU is a hot-bed of 27 latent European WWIII war-mongers so insists we ‘remain’ but as all 190+ UN (including EU) members signed a UN Charter to cohabit as ‘good neighbours... and maintain international security’, why do we need a political EU of 27 malcontents for peace?

Keith advocates abolishing NATO: will France abandon its colossal defence trade and his 22 EU NATO members abolish their armed forces (they constitute NATO) to rely, like Iceland, on the six non-EU NATO members (including Britain) for their defence?

Does he propose a Euro-army?

Dare he send Putin, Kim Jong-un and ISSL a ‘Wish you were here’ postcard?
