Updated: Biker's concerns about dangerous defect on '˜Camber bends'

Karen Baker, from the East Kent Motorcycle Action Group, is concerned the defect - a depression followed five yards later by a hump - could lead to a fatality.

The defect has appeared on what is known as the ‘Camber bends’.

She visited the site with a highways steward from East Sussex County Council.

Karen said: “This defect is on the ‘Camber bends’ ie the road from Lydd to Camber and is positioned just after a hard right hand bend, 20 yards across the county line in East Sussex on the Camber bound carriageway.

“For those who know the road it is midway between Lydd caravan park (on the right) and the red brick bungalow (also on the right).

“The defect is a depression and then five yards on a hump in the road which is like a speed bump. This is at the point where you begin to bring the bike upright after the hard right.

“It has been agreed that this defect is being caused by movement in the expansion joints between the sections of Tarmac and will need extensive investigation to determine the cause and decide upon a remedy. We all know that this will not be a quick fix.

“However, our nice highways steward has agreed that there will be warning signs put in place at the county line which is the best he could offer in such a short time. I aim to receive a similar response from Kent highways next week.”

A spokesperson from East Sussex County Council said: “The damage on has been assessed as not requiring immediate repair.

“We have met with bikers to discuss their concerns and have agreed to put signs in place advising of the uneven road surface.”
