Conservatives retain Darwell seat in by-election

The Conservative Party retained its hold of Darwell ward as county councillor John Barnes won yesterday's by-election (Thursday, October 27).

Mr Barnes received 369 votes with Liberal Democrat Mary Varrall coming second with 259 pledges.

Antonia Berelson (Labour) was third with 79 votes, Green Party candidate Andrew Wedmore came fourth having received 69 votes and UKIP’s Edward Smith was last with 60 votes.

Three votes were rejected and the overall turnout was 20.48 per cent.
