Steam, power and history in Brede

Celebrate Guy Fawkes Day by dipping into the past with the Giants Of Brede in Brede village on Saturday November 5.

Visitors are welcomed between 10-4pm to discover the power and majesty of Edwardian engineering and you can see how these staggering water pumping engines kept the people of Hastings and surrounding areas healthy with safe water - this is large scale British achievement at its best from more than 100 years ago.

With free admission and parking this is a family day out which will educate and fascinate, and there are guided tours and talks. The Tangeye Tea Bar will serve light refreshments and homemade cakes.

The Brede Steam Giants society was formed in 1994 with the purpose of restoring the triple expansion steam pumping engines that remained on the Brede site. Two Two Tangye engines with their ram pumps and well pumps were installed as part of the original Waterworks concept in 1904.
