The event will see judging for the fancy dress competition take place from 5.30pm and the torchlit procession from 7pm.

John Lederer, from Ewhurst & Staplecross Bonfire Society, said: “Society members are putting together the safety barriers, lighting, food stalls, ammusements and, of course, final touches to the grand bonfire and fantastic fireworks.

“A final fundraising jumble sale was held on September 10 and torch making held at the Cross Inn on September 17, where the society made 1,000 torches. These are needed for the parade from Staplecross to Cripps Corner and back, after which we, along with visiting societies, enter the bonfire field.

“The burning torches light the procession along unlit roads, making the village event very atmospheric.

“We trust once again the event, dubbed ‘The Best Village Bonfire Night’, attracts a large attendance.

“Last year’s figures from the gate collection and other attractions showed that yet again we had a record year. Let’s hope this year will be even better.

“This is very important to the society as monies raised go to local charities and good causes and the tremendous amount of work put into the evening and throughout the year proves worthwhile.”

Entry to the bonfire field will once again be £1 for visitors.

The grand firework display starts at 9pm.

John added: “The evening will start with the ever-popular fancy dress competition in the village hall.

“This is followed by the bonfire societies’ procession at 7pm.

Many locals meet the procession at Cripps Corner and follow the procession back up the hill to Staplecross and then on to the bonfire field.”

If anyone would like to join Ewhurst & Staplecross Bonfire Society, it normally meets at 8pm on the first Monday of each month at The Cross Inn.

John said: “The weather forecast is good, so the society hopes to see everyone for a fantastic evening at Staplecross tomorrow.”
