On Sunday September 20, 4 members took part in the Rother League Bowls Final Fling at Staplecross Bowls Club (just outside Sedlescombe). Chris and Brenda Haffenden/Vic Lawrence and Sue Haffenden represented Ninfield . The 4 members had a most enjoyable day with lunch and afternoon tea, cheered on by 3 other members, who went over to support them. 10 League teams took part in this event with Ninfield being joint winners with 21 points (won 7 games lost two). However because of shot difference Sidley Martlets, who also had 21 points, were presented with a tumbler showing them as winners. Ninfield did very well considering some of the League Teams they lost to during the season and were well above Ninfield in the League Table. They have 2 new members from Ninfield but would welcome a few more residents to take up the sport with them. It boosted their morale and they look forward to an enjoyable Bowls Season in 2016. They now start their Social evenings which include Beatle Drives, Games Evenings, Darts and Whist Drives.

Barry’s career was a Prison Officer based at North Eye Prison, his talk will relate some of his many experiences and stories about the workings of an open prison. Many of us in Hooe still remember that night when the prison was set alight, the night sky was bright with the fierce burning. It will be fascinating to hear Barry’s account of that night and of other more routine happenings.
