Statement is a little too ironic

I cannot help but comment on the irony of this.

I have watched her performance as an MP ever since receiving a telephone call from her in 2010 when she promised me, in exchange for my vote, not blindly to follow the party whip and pursue her own preferment but to represent the views of myself and her other constituents.

I wish that she would use the space afforded to her in this newspaper to solicit the views of local people on issues considered by parliament.

She has steadfastly voted for just about everything her party leader has promoted and it has done wonders for her career.

Unfortunately, she doesn’t seem to have given more than a cursory glance at the aspirations of a majority of her constituents.

Yes, she has supported the fishermen (up to a point, but not as far as withdrawing from the Common Fisheries Policy dictated to them by Brussels) and she has supported the high speed connection to Ashford (although I don’t remember her commenting on the negative impact this would have on the fares of people like myself for whom the Hastings to Charing Cross line is far more convenient).

I am still dismayed by her blind support for so-called ‘gay marriage’, which in my opinion is nothing of the kind and which again she supported without asking her constituents (and, yes, I am in support of gay partners’ equal rights in respect of property, etc but can’t quite see how ‘gay marriage’ fits in with our ‘wonderful heritage’).

She is now involved in the ridiculous bankrupting of our country by blindly following her inept predecessors in abolishing our heritage energy supplies before any viable and affordable alternatives are available to us, even though our contribution to CO2 emissions is a tiny fraction of the world output.

The fact that she is at least backing the use of fracking is a small consolation but we should wait to see the benefits of that before ditching our present assets.

Finally, just in case she might still have some small inclination to take my views into account, please would she note the following: Mr Cameron’s goals for changes to our relationship with the EU are laughably inadequate. Even if they were to be completely achievable they would not serve our country’s best interests.

We need to be able to define our own laws, borders, civil rights, financial framework, currency, defence, food and energy security and relationships with the rest of the world. We always have done in the past and that is surely part of ‘the wonderful heritage and culture of our country’.
