Ticehurst patient injured after climbing down drainpipe

Officers from Sussex Police were called to The Priory Hospital at 6.50pm on Thursday, November 5, after the man fell 30ft into a yard.

Police said the drainpipe he was climbing down ‘gave way’ after he climbed off the roof of the building.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “He was taken first to Pembury Hospital and to the Kings College Hospital in London, where he is being treated for serious but not life threatening head and body injuries.

“Nobody else was involved in the incident.

“He had climbed up the same way on to the adjacent roof some half an hour previously.”

The Priory Hospital treats and cares for people with ‘severe and enduring’ mental health problems and complex needs, such as schizophrenia.

It also treats young people with depression, anxiety and stress, fatigue syndromes, autistic spectrum disorders, self harm and inappropriate sexualised behaviour and has beds for emergency mental health placements.

A spokeswoman for the Priory Hospital, Ticehurst, said: “We can confirm that one of our patients was involved in an accident on Thursday, 5 November. “Our staff acted quickly to ensure immediate medical assistance was available and the patient is now in a stable condition and is recovering well.”
