MURDER MYSTERY EVENING: At the time of writing all eight tables tomorrow (Saturday) evening in the Hall seemed pretty full. But if you haven’t yet booked a place on one and don’t want to miss a good evening out, in convivial company, with dramatic entertainment, an intriguing problem to solve and some of the very best local fish and chips (all for a tenner), do get in touch with Gill Rothery (01424 882774) as soon as possible: she may be able to fit you in on one of them.

HARVEST FESTIVAL will be celebrated at the 9.30am Family Sung Eucharist in St Mary’s this Sunday - a time to give thanks for this year’s bountiful produce of field and garden, despite some spells of indifferent weather.

MESSY CHURCH: will happen in the Hall at 4pm on Tuesday (October 6) Lots of fun for adults bringing children - or children bringing adults!

THE DIVER WHO SAVED WINCHESTER CATHEDRAL: This is the subject of an illustrated talk to be given by Dr John Crook in Brede Village Hall on Wednesday (October 7) starting at 7.30pm. Tickets, to include cheese, biscuits and a glass of wine, cost £7.50 and are available from Marion Firman (01424 751165) or Pat Whately (01424 883069). This is a fundraising event for the Friends of St George’s Church. Brede.

TEA PARTY: The Brede and Udimore Overseas Group are holding another of their popular afternoon tea parties next Sunday (October 11) in the Hall, from 3 till 5pm: an afternoon of fun, quizzes and raffles. Free entrance, with opportunities to make donations to the four missionary charities supported by the Group. For more information please contact Liz (01424 882657) or Stella (01424 883246).

HARVEST LUNCH: Our Udimore lunch will be held in the Hall the following Sunday (October 18). Tickets costing £8.50 (£5 for 5 - 14 year-olds, under 5 free) are available from Ann Barker (01424 883515). More details next week.

JUMBLE SALE: If you’re doing some turning out at this time of year, please look out likely items for a big Autumn Sale on Saturday October 24 (10am till noon in the Hall). These could include clothes and linen (clean and in a good state of repair), china, crockery, kitchen utensils, garden implements, small pieces of furniture, other household items, children’s toys, and (all inclusively) bric-a-brac. Nan Hacking will be very grateful for any contributions you can make: please either bring them along to the Hall between 2 and 4pm on the Friday, or ring Nan (01424 882348) to have them collected from your home beforehand.
